Moving forward

So I had a conversation with Christopher James Yesterday. I went to meet with him because I’ve decided to take a shot at getting into Grad School. I’d be doing a two year MFA in photography. Since my heart is deeply in photography, there would be no use for me to do a MFA in visual arts.

I had about an hour of taking a look at the facilities as well as he took a look at my work and gave me his critique of my work.

After looking through a few images and me explaning my process, he came to this statement that I need to give the viewer “dessert.” Meaning I  already give these images, i am falling short in a conceptual aspect. My technical abilites are there, but I need to do something more to engage and connect the two.

So I thought I was doing this, but I guess my loose framework of my photographs need to be tighter.

I left his office happy that he gave me such an honest critique of my work which I havent really gotten since I was at Hartford.

The more and more as I returned home, I got more and more anxious about what and where my photographs are going.

I went shooting last night, as I was walking to my car to get my tripod, The idea to return to Deer Island came to mind, and On a whim, I decided to drive there instead of staying around Somerville.

So i took about 3 or 4 shots there. I put myself in the photographs, something I’ve never done before.

Im not exactly sure where I’m going with this, but Its something that is new and uncomfortable to me.

Hopefully, These images will push me in the right direction.

My personal goal to make a body of work for grad school is december 1.

I’ve gotta keep moving… shooting continuously, and with purpose.

I’m worried and excited about it.
